Beginning Tuesday, April 30th, all students in the second through sixth grades at Vieja Valley School will participate in the State Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. Testing will take place April 30th through May 14th from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This is an important part of the California assessment system initially authorized by state law (Senate Bill 376) in 1997.

The purpose of the STAR Program is to measure how well students are learning the curriculum and skills in the California content standards. The content standards describe what students at each grade level should know and be able to do in each curricular area. STAR reports sent to both school and home, provide valuable information about your child’s academic achievement.

We are asking parents to assist us in maximizing every child’s opportunity to perform to their potential. You can do this by keeping the routine consistent at home. Have your child get plenty of sleep, eat breakfast that contains protein and not sugar, and bring a healthy snack. As always, be sure your child arrives to school on time. Schedule appointments for your child after school. Do not interrupt the classroom during testing. If your child is ill please let the school office know immediately so we can arrange for make-up testing.
